We already knew that Hyundai was working on a next generation fuel cell car. But inside the Korean group, Kia sister brand is looking at this powertrain as well.
At an event at Kia’s R&D centre in Namyang, South Korea, an official confirmed that the fuel cell was part of the roadmap. He didn’t tell when, and on which car hydrogen could be applied. However, as Hyundai already has the ix35 Fuel Cell on the road, it would make sens to see the Kia Sportage with a similar technology. This SUV has room enough to pack in the fuel cell and batteries needed for this kind of powertrain.
On its website, the Korean OEM hosts a page on previous hydrogen prototypes, from 2008 to 2012. These cars were SUVs.
