Smart H2 demo with hydrogen bikes at ITS World Congress in Bordeaux

In october, Bordeaux will welcome the 22nd ITS World Congress. It’s a huge event, dedicated to the future of mobility. Main topics will cover autonomous driving, the connected car and apps to enhance the use of public transport. But, alternative energies – including hydrogen – will be there too.

Thanks to a new concept of hydrogen production directly used in a bicycle, the consortium made by the VEDECOM Institute, Atawey and Pragma Industries brings the concept of SmartGrid and light hydrogen mobility to reality.

One complete SmartGrid illustrated by a little house supplied with energy by an electric car, one hydrogen recharging station and a fleet of bicycles will be presented.

Ten bicycles, with a fuel cell supplied by Pragma Industries, will be available for testing during the ITS World Congress event, and then be installed in the city of Versailles (near Paris). These new bikes bring more comfort than existing electrical bikes, with a longer range (more than 60 kms) and a fast recharging time (5 minutes).

The solution offers green hydrogen thanks to a hydrogen production directly at the recharging station. Using water and electricity uneaten by the little house, the system delivers 100% green hydrogen to the bikes. The project’s aim is the improvement of people mobility for short distance while decreasing the carbon footprint.

Thanks to this project, the consortium will install under real circumstances a fleet of bikes connected to stations and buildings for 3 years in order to gather feedback on the technology.
