Rely and John Cockerill selected for one of the world’s largest green ammonia plants in India
The two companies have been chosen by Indian company AM Green to convert its production plant in Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh State) to green ammonia, with a supply target of 1 million tonnes per year.
This project, which received a Final Investment Decision (FID) last August, highlights the potential of the Indian market. Located in a port on the east coast, the AM Green plant will supply 1 million tonnes per year of green ammonia, most of which will be exported to Europe. The site has already obtained CertifHY pre-certification, making it the first to reach this stage for projects based in India.
Rely, a company owned by Technip Energies (60%) and John Cockerill (40%), is responsible for the design, equipment supply, and construction. The Belgian group will provide two 640 MW pressurized alkaline electrolysers, marking the first installation of such machines on an industrial site. Hydrogen will be produced via electrolysis, powered by a combination of wind, solar energy, and a hydroelectric pumped storage system.
In addition to the Kakinada site, AM Green plans to develop several other green ammonia plants in India, aiming for a total of 5 million tonnes per year by 2030. During European Hydrogen Week in November, Rely and John Cockerill will celebrate this contract with their client and representatives of the Indian authorities.
