European Hydrogen Week: Toyota and Its Partners Take the Spotlight in Brussels

Toyota is showcasing a variety of fuel cell applications at the European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, ranging from bicycles to boats. Alongside Toyota, BMW and other partners are presenting innovations at a stand clearly focused on hydrogen-powered mobility.

The collaboration between BMW and Toyota is prominently featured. A photograph of the CEOs of both groups highlights the partnership, while the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and the Toyota Hilux pick-up share the spotlight. Notably, the iX5 Hydrogen is the passenger version of BMW’s hydrogen-powered SUV, which was previously displayed at Art Basel.

Toyota’s focus extends to heavy-duty vehicles as well. Two hydrogen trucks, one from Iveco and the other from VDL, are displayed at the back of the stand. In this segment, Toyota is emphasizing advancements in refueling technology, claiming that it will soon be possible to refuel a truck in just 10 minutes, compared to the current 30 minutes. This improvement is attributed to technology from the upcoming Mirai that enhances hydrogen flow rates.

The stand also includes a competitive edge with the Hyse buggy from the Dakar Rally, a hydrogen-powered vehicle that will debut in January. Named Mission 1000 ACT2, the buggy is displayed alongside the H24 EVO from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the H24 Project. Although the H24 EVO uses a Symbio fuel cell rather than a Toyota component, the Japanese automaker maintains strong ties with the organisers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Interestingly, the buggy is featured at the ACO stand, further underlining these collaborative efforts.

Toyota’s prominent presence at the European Hydrogen Week reflects its strong commitment to hydrogen mobility, as well as its confidence in advancing the sector through diverse partnerships and cutting-edge technologies.
