Drift Energy Wins Monaco Prize for Innovation in Renewable Hydrogen and Transportation

British start-up Drift Energy has earned the prestigious Monaco Prize for Innovation in Renewable Hydrogen and Transportation at the Monaco Hydrogen Forum. The award, presented by Prince Albert II of Monaco during the forum’s closing ceremony, celebrates groundbreaking advancements in green energy.

Standing out among eight finalists, Drift Energy impressed with its visionary project: sailboats equipped with underwater turbines that generate renewable hydrogen at sea via electrolysis. This innovative system, named Sail Power to X, utilizes cutting-edge routing algorithms driven by artificial intelligence, ensuring optimal weather conditions for peak performance.

The green hydrogen produced is stored in 40-foot containers aboard the vessels, which can be effortlessly transferred to onshore facilities. In addition to supplying hydrogen to ports, Drift Energy aims to enable at-sea refueling for other vessels, opening doors to expanded maritime applications.

This award highlights the transformative role of renewable hydrogen in revolutionizing the maritime industry. As a beacon of innovation at the Monaco Hydrogen Forum, Drift Energy reinforces the global push toward sustainability and cleaner energy solutions.
