Often considered a dress rehearsal for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Belgian round of the World Endurance Championship will spotlight hydrogen-powered cars from 8 to 10 May—thanks to the MissionH24 programme.
Since 2018, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), the FIA WEC Championship, and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit have been actively promoting hydrogen. The iconic Ardennes track has hosted key moments in hydrogen motorsport development, including the launch of the MissionH24 programme, the inauguration of TotalEnergies’ mobile hydrogen station, and on-track demonstrations of hydrogen-powered race cars like the LMPH2G and the H24.
Last year, the H24 returned to the track just before the main race, while a hydrogen village was set up in the fan zone by the ACO.
A Hydrogen Village and Forum
This year, the hydrogen village is back, featuring a 700-bar mobile hydrogen refuelling station provided by TotalEnergies for the prototypes. On display will be Alpine’s Alpenglow Hy6* and the Toyota Gazoo Racing Yaris H2 Concept—previously showcased at the Le Mans Hydrogen Symposium.
Both vehicles will take to the track for demonstration laps. Two time slots are scheduled: Friday 9 May from 2:00 to 2:10 pm, and Saturday 10 May from 12:20 to 12:35 pm. After their zero-emission runs, the cars will return to the village to be viewed by the public.
The MissionH24 programme will also be represented by its technical director, Bassel Aslan, who will present the new H24EVO. Visitors will be able to enjoy hands-on activities to learn about hydrogen production and its various applications. The ACO will also showcase DiscoverHy, a small hydrogen-powered race car developed in collaboration with AdvancedH2Valley.
A hydrogen forum will be held in partnership with Hydrogen Europe, aimed at raising awareness among secondary school and university educators about this emerging energy solution.
*Due to an electronic issue, the Hy4 version was unable to complete a lap of the circuit last year—but it later successfully raced at Le Mans.
