ZeroAvia Continues to File Patents for Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft

The hydrogen aviation start-up ZeroAvia has just filed nine new patents for large hydrogen-powered regional aircraft, bringing its total number of granted patents to 45, with nearly 250 additional applications currently pending.

It’s not just Airbus—or even Boeing—investing in the future of hydrogen-powered flight. New players like ZeroAvia are also leading on innovation. To address the higher power demands of larger regional aircraft, the company has filed patents related to aluminium bipolar plates, among other developments. These include cryogenic management systemsthermal control for fuel cell systems, and fuel cell catalysts using platinum nanoparticles.

With its high-temperature fuel cell technology, ZeroAvia has made progress across a wide range of technical areas—from core engine subsystems and aircraft integration to hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. As a result, the company now holds one of the most advanced intellectual property portfolios in the hydrogen-electric aviation powertrain sector—an invaluable asset in competing with the aviation industry’s biggest names.

“As major airframe manufacturers begin to compete on hydrogen aircraft technologies, there is a huge opportunity for companies pioneering hydrogen propulsion systems,” said Val Miftakhov, founder and CEO of ZeroAvia.
