There may be fresh hope for the heavy-duty sector. Singapore-based Horizon Fuel Cell plans to acquire Hyzon’s* intellectual property rights to better serve customers in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Europe.
According to George Gu, Chairman of Horizon Fuel Cell Group, “Hydrogen is the ultimate clean solution for long-haul transport and other heavy-duty vehicle operations, and it will soon become more financially attractive than diesel or batteries.” Horizon intends to integrate its latest 400 kW fuel cell into trucks for global markets. Technological advances are expected to deliver fuel savings of 15 to 20% compared with previous generations of hydrogen trucks.
This is why the Singaporean company is seeking to acquire Hyzon Motors’ patents. “Hyzon has developed state-of-the-art hydrogen truck platforms and built a strong reputation with international customers,” said George Gu. “Acquiring Hyzon’s vehicle-related IP will allow us to serve these clients and create new revenue streams for Horizon.” Hyzon had filed more than 100 patents.
Headquartered and listed in the United States, Hyzon ceased operations in December 2024.
*Hyzon was originally a spin-off from Horizon, formerly part of the group but operating independently.
