This Monday and Tuesday, Airbus is hosting an online event dedicated to sustainability in aviation. The Airbus Summit 2025 will address key environmental challenges, with a strong focus on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs) and hydrogen.
The event will kick off with a high-profile guest: Bertrand Piccard, who will present his ambitious plan to circumnavigate the globe non-stop in a liquid hydrogen-powered aircraft. Notably, Airbus is one of the key partners in this initiative. Later this afternoon, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury and Julie Kitcher, Head of Sustainable Development, will also speak.
During Airbus’s annual results presentation, Guillaume Faury highlighted that this event would provide an opportunity to clarify the company’s decarbonisation roadmap. Despite recent speculation, Airbus remains fully committed to hydrogen as part of its long-term strategy.
On Tuesday, the agenda includes five roundtable discussions, two of which are particularly noteworthy. The first will focus on SAFs, featuring an expert panel including Julie Kitcher (Airbus), Vanessa Hudson (Qantas), Elena Schmidt (RSB), Gabrielle Walker (CUR8), and Julia Fidler (Microsoft).
Another key discussion will explore technologies shaping the future of aviation, covering aircraft design and alternative propulsion systems, including hydrogen. A progress update will be provided on ZEROe, Airbus’s hydrogen-powered aircraft project, by Gwen Llewelyn, Vice-President in charge of the programme. The panel will also feature several Airbus experts, including:
- Bruno Ficheteux, Head of Future Programmes
- Karim Mokkadem, Specialist in Future Aircraft Research
- Mohamed Ali, Chief Technology Officer at GE Aerospace
With key industry leaders and cutting-edge discussions, the Airbus Summit 2025 promises to be a pivotal event in the push for greener aviation.
