Bosch and Johnson Matthey have signed an agreement in Stuttgart to develop and produce catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs) for their fuel cell.

Bosch, a global leader in automotive technology and a strong advocate for hydrogen, needs no introduction. But who is Johnson Matthey? Founded in 1817, Johnson Matthey is a British company specializing in materials chemistry, leveraging its expertise to drive decarbonization and the energy transition.

Under this partnership, Johnson Matthey will supply high-performance membranes for the fuel cells Bosch is developing for commercial vehicles. The collaboration will take place at Bosch’s fuel cell center in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Germany.

Beate Grota, Bosch Mobility’s Executive Vice President of Engineering Power Solutions, added: “he fuel cell technology for mobile applications is technologically ready for widespread use. Our partnership aims to further increase the performance and efficiency of the fuel cell stacks.

As a member of the International Platinum Group Metals Association (IPA), Johnson Matthey contributed to a paper urging policymakers to accelerate the rollout of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) alongside battery electric vehicles (BEVs) before 2030 to strengthen European competitiveness.
