Bosch and Johnson Matthey have signed an agreement in Stuttgart to develop and produce catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs) for their fuel cell.
Bosch, a global leader in automotive technology and a strong advocate for hydrogen, needs no introduction. But who is Johnson Matthey? Founded in 1817, Johnson Matthey is a British company specializing in materials chemistry, leveraging its expertise to drive decarbonization and the energy transition.
Under this partnership, Johnson Matthey will supply high-performance membranes for the fuel cells Bosch is developing for commercial vehicles. The collaboration will take place at Bosch’s fuel cell center in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Germany.
Technology ready for large-scale deployment
“M is thrilled to be joining forces, exploring and developing future possibilities to accelerate cleaner mobility and energy generation,” said Anish Taneja, JM Hydrogen Technologies Chief Executive.
Beate Grota, Bosch Mobility’s Executive Vice President of Engineering Power Solutions, added: “he fuel cell technology for mobile applications is technologically ready for widespread use. Our partnership aims to further increase the performance and efficiency of the fuel cell stacks.”
As a member of the International Platinum Group Metals Association (IPA), Johnson Matthey contributed to a paper urging policymakers to accelerate the rollout of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) alongside battery electric vehicles (BEVs) before 2030 to strengthen European competitiveness.
