Following its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, the Brussels Motor Show now hosts the European premiere of Hyundai’s replacement for the Nexo. Hydrogen Today had the opportunity to see it up close.
While around 20 new models have been announced for the 2025 event—most of them battery-electric—the list of concept cars includes two hydrogen-powered vehicles. Leading the charge is the Hyundai Initium, an SUV with a bold, adventurous design that is noticeably more appealing than the model it is set to replace this year. Its name, derived from the Latin word for “beginning,” reflects a fresh start for Hyundai in this segment.
Technical details remain scarce, but it’s known that the SUV boasts a range of 650 km and features an electric motor with a power output of 150 kW. The production version is slated for release in the first half of this year, and it will include a new-generation fuel cell that Hyundai claims offers a 40% improvement in lifespan.
The Brussels Motor Show also provides an opportunity to revisit Alpine’s Alpenglow Hy6. First revealed at the Paris Motor Show a few months ago, this hydrogen-powered race car is now on display for the Belgian public. The Alpenglow Hy6 is set to hit the track later this year for its initial test drives. Interestingly, the Brussels Motor Show had already showcased the very first Alpenglow in 2023.
