Carlos Ghosn remains cautious about hydrogen, but doesn’t say no
During the Geneva motor show, Carlos Ghosn, the CEO of Renault-Nissan has made statements about hydrogen. He doesn’t deny the interest of the fuel cell as a long term solution, but considers there’s no need to step onto that energy in a significant way.
In fact, Mr Ghosn is disappointed by the low penetration of electric cars. He thinks that public authorities didn’t make enough efforts to promote a charging infrastructure. “Five years ago, I didn’t think that we should only be at that development stage”, he said.
Concerning hydrogen, the CEO highlighted that Renault-Nissan alliance was mastering fuel cell technology. But, there is no emergency, he added, due to the fact that the question of the infrastructure is even more important for FCVs. Costs for hydrogen distribution are higher too and related to safety standards.
