As part of the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, which runs from April 13 to October 13, the soft drinks manufacturer will unveil a dispenser incorporating a hydrogen cartridge.

Designed in collaboration with Fuji Electric, the vending machine features a fuel cell generator powered by a hydrogen cartridge. The electricity generated is stored in a battery to power the machine. The advantage of this system is that it can provide electricity anywhere, regardless of the weather*, without emitting CO₂. It also reduces the amount of land required.

Coca-Cola is also enhancing the customer experience with a monitor explaining the electricity production process. This next-generation vending machine is compatible with a smartphone application and offers tactile or auditory feedback. It will be installed under the main roof of the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025.

This concept aligns with the ambitions of Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan and Fuji Electric, who aim to contribute to the realisation of a low-carbon society through the development of environmentally friendly vending machines.

*An important consideration in Japan, where resilience to natural disasters is a key priority.
