While the hydrogen catamaran has just returned to Saint-Malo, and discussions are continuing for the liquid hydrogen cargo ship Energy Observer 2, a third opus is on the horizon.
In its latest magazine, the Energy Observer team reveals that a new visionary vessel is in the pipeline. Almost 10 years after the first one, the ambition is to design a laboratory ship. Like its predecessor, it will “push the limits of onboard technologies”, but “with a complex energy architecture” that will ” enable studies of the real impact of synthetic fuels (e-fuels) and associated technologies”.
Energy Observer 3 will embark and test 10 technological blocks that will turn the vessel into an exceptional new platform. The boat will provide a better understanding of these energies and quantify their performance. This is one of the projects for the period between 2025 and 2030.
Led by the design office EO Concept, construction of the vessel will begin in the second half of 2025. The aim is to have the vessel in the water by 2026.
