A hydrogen-powered car from the Netherlands takes part in Formula Student France near Lyon

The first Formula Student event in zero-carbon mode is taking place today (August 30th), on the Transpolis* site. This is a world-renowned automotive engineering competition. And hydrogen will be one of the solutions on show.

For the first time in France, Formula Student France is opening its doors to the public. It will be a chance to see prototype single-seaters designed and built by student engineers from all over Europe. The special feature of the 2024 event will be that it will be a 100% carbon-free competition.

All but one of these cars will be battery-electric. The Hy Driven team (formerly Green Team Twente) has come from the Netherlands to present its hydrogen-powered racing vehicle. The team brings together students from the University of Twente and the University of Saxion, both based in Enschede (right in the middle of a triangle formed by Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Groningen). Symbio and Mahle are among the supporters, as are Schaeffler and the NLR aerospace institute in the Netherlands.

Hy Driven takes part in these kinds of events to convince other student teams. After taking part in the Formula Student event in the Netherlands in mid-July (see video) on the Assen circuit, the team will be in the Lyon region this weekend.
