Green steel: Vinci wins a contract from Thyssenkrupp in Germany

Through its subsidiary Cobra IS, the group has been selected by SMS Group to carry out works on a section of the industrial complex of steel manufacturer Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe in Duisburg, Germany.

As part of this project, Vinci will be providing its expertise in industrial piping and mechanical engineering. The contract is worth €74 million.

Thyssenkrupp will decarbonise its steel production process by using hydrogen. The Duisburg site will have an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of pre-reduced iron ore. It will also be the first site in Germany designed to run exclusively on green hydrogen. It will avoid up to 3.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.
