Helion Power System, a subsidiary of Alstom, has signed an agreement with the Spanish company M REFORMER to integrate its 100 kW fuel cell with methanol reformer technology. A demonstration is planned at M REFORMER’s facilities in Barcelona.

The collaboration aims to streamline the conversion process from methanol to electricity. M REFORMER’s E-NOMAD devices will convert methanol into hydrogen, which will then be utilised by Helion’s fuel cell to produce electricity. This innovation is being hailed as a significant advancement, offering a solution that combines the convenience of liquid fuel storage with efficient hydrogen-based electricity generation.

Vincent Mahéo, CEO of Helion, emphasised the benefits of this approach: “Green hydrogen derived from methanol overcomes storage constraints and delivers energy that can be directly used by customers.” He added, “This partnership addresses a key obstacle, paving the way for the widespread adoption of hydrogen.”

For M REFORMER, the collaboration highlights the potential of off-grid electricity generation for stationary applications, using green liquid molecules as a storage medium. This development represents a promising step forward in advancing clean energy solutions.
