Based in Mettray, in the Indre-et-Loire department (central France), the H+Performance association has set its sights on entering the Guinness Book of Records. Its ambitious plan? To build a hydrogen-powered motorcycle capable of competing in the renowned Bonneville Speed Week in Utah in 2026.

Hydrogen Today met Laurent Destouches (the director and founder of Solutions Composites, a company specialising in advanced composite materials) on Saturday at the Orléans-Bricy Air Base (a French military airfield located near the city of Orléans), during the presentation of a hydrogen tank developed by Raigi and Adventa. An entrepreneur and engineer with a passion for innovation, Destouches has assembled a team of experts in motorcycling, mechanics and hydrogen energy to take on a bold challenge: to set the first-ever speed record for a hydrogen-powered motorcycle. Together, they have created the H+Performance association.

Designed with a sleek, aerodynamic profile, the motorcycle will be powered by a commercially available fuel cell. The team is aiming to reach a speed of at least 200 miles per hour (over 350 km/h). Until now, the only known hydrogen motorcycle speed project was H2 MOTRONICS, which was never completed and had a target speed of just 250 km/h. The team sees this as a chance to proudly represent the Centre-Val de Loire region (an administrative region in central France) on an international stage.

What’s the link with Raigi?

The H+Performance team is seeking a hydrogen tank that is both lightweight and compact—qualities showcased in the model presented on Saturday. According to the team, the project goes beyond simply setting a record: they want to develop a reproducible prototype, potentially adaptable for broader use. The long-term goal is to inspire innovation in the motorbike industry and promote sustainable mobility.

The project is currently being funded by the association itself, but the team is actively seeking sponsors and partners to help turn this dream into reality.
