Solaris to supply 8 articulated hydrogen buses to Belfort

In July, Solaris signed a contract with the French city of Belfort to supply eight Urbino 18 hydrogen-powered buses. The vehicles were ordered by *SMTC 90 (Syndicat Mixte des Transports en Commun).

Expected in October 2025, the buses ordered by Belfort will carry a 100 kW fuel cell and composite tanks capable of storing more than 50 kg of hydrogen at a pressure of 350 bars. They will also be powered by a 240 kW electric motor. The components will be distributed over the roof, providing more space for passengers. In addition, these buses will comply with the GSR2 standard, with state-of-the-art safety equipment including a blind spot obstacle detection system. They will also benefit from high-performance air conditioning with a heat pump function.

‘We are extremely proud to be working with the SMTC in Belfort to provide the city with high-tech, zero-emission hydrogen buses. The hydrogen-powered Urbino 18 are not only an innovative means of transport, but also a step towards a sustainable future. Thanks to the new Solaris buses, the people of Belfort will be able to enjoy cleaner air and modern, reliable public transport’, commented Brice Bonavia, Managing Director of Solaris France.

This is the third order for hydrogen-powered buses on the French market in recent months, following four vehicles for Artois Mobilités and 22 buses for Île-de-France Mobilités.
