Hydrogen Certification: Atmen Raises €5 Million in Funding

The Germany-based company, co-founded by three French entrepreneurs*, guarantees the green certification of energy production through a platform that processes supply chain data. It is already collaborating with Lhyfe.

Atmen now has €6.3 million in total funding. The latest round was led by existing investors Revent and Vireo Ventures, alongside prominent business angels such as former TÜV SÜD CEO Axel Stepken, former ThyssenKrupp CEO and board member Martina Merz, and serial entrepreneur Christian Vollmann. This funding will support the deployment of Atmen’s platform, enabling manufacturers to certify the origin of their production and ensure supply chain integrity.

Unlike traditional certification methods based on periodic sampling and annual estimates, Atmen’s solution collects real-time data. This allows for accurate and continuous verification of compliance for energy-intensive products such as hydrogen and renewable fuels.

An Automated Approach That Connects All Stakeholders
Atmen highlights the example of low-carbon ammonia, a crucial topic in Europe’s fertiliser sector. Since the ammonia molecule is chemically identical regardless of its production method, certification requires the processing of over 70,000 data points per year to verify product origin and environmental impact.

This is precisely where Atmen adds value, thanks to its unique system that connects all stakeholders—from producers and traders to auditors and certification bodies.

Atmen was founded in January 2023 by Flore de Durfort, Quentin Cangelosi, and Erika Degoute, who met while working at the European energy company E.ON. The name “Atmen” means “to breathe” in Latin.
