Hyundai Plans fuel cell Production Factory in Korea for Mass Production by 2028

According to the Korean press, the manufacturer is planning to set up a fuel cell production facility 300 km from Seoul. The site, set to be built in 2028, will be located within an existing industrial complex in Ulsan.

Hyundai is committed to hydrogen. The Korean giant, which will release the successor to the Nexo (the Initium SUV) later this year, has made several statements in recent months to reaffirm its determination to continue investing in this field. The announcement of a new factory is a clear step in this direction. The facility is expected to begin mass-producing fuel cells by 2028.

The company is also undergoing a major reorganization. A year ago, it decided to bring Hyundai Mobis’ hydrogen activities in-house. Hyundai now directly manages research and production of fuel cells. Under the name HTwo, Hyundai already operates a factory in China that produces 6,500 cells annually.
