Through its research centre, NaTran (formerly GRTgaz) is opening up its Jupiter 1000 Power-to-Gas platform to new applications involving synthetic fuels and hydrogen.
Launched in 2016 in Fos-sur-Mer, at the heart of the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille’s Innovex incubator, Jupiter 1000 is France’s first industrial-scale Power-to-Gas demonstrator. Its original objective was to convert renewable electricity into hydrogen via electrolysis, or into synthetic methane by combining hydrogen with CO₂ — with both gases then injected into the gas transmission network. Testing carried out in 2024 has now been successfully completed.
This marks the beginning of a new phase. NaTran R&I (formerly known as the RICE laboratory) is therefore launching a Call for Expressions of Interest (CEI) for new projects. These may involve Power-to-Gas technologies, particularly those related to hydrogen, synthetic methane, or carbon capture and utilisation (CCU); technical access to the platform’s equipment for trials or tests; and the development of training or awareness-raising modules related to hydrogen handling.
This call is open to companies, research institutes, universities, and project developers looking to collaborate or build synergies with the Jupiter 1000 platform. Submissions must be made by 23 June.
