According to Ouest France the French start-up based in Nantes, Lhyfe has started producing green hydrogen from electricity “generated by windmills on the seashore at the Bouin site in the Vendée. The first 600 kg (about 1300 pounds) were produced in August,” says Matthieu Guesné, the founder of Lhyfe. When the site is inaugurated at the end of September “the capacity will be 300 kg (about 650 pounds) per day, knowing that one kilo (2.2 pounds) of hydrogen is equivalent to 7 litres of petrol.” “In 2022, we plan to increase to one tonne per day to meet orders,” continues the company’s CEO. The latter adds that he already has customers who have equipped themselves “from forklifts to trucks.”
Lhyfe has raised €8 million (about $9.4 million) to build this factory which “consumes 2.5 megawatts, the equivalent of eight industrial zones.”
According to Ouest France, Lhyfe is currently developing sixty plants in Europe, from Denmark to Portugal. “The Bouin site demonstrates that we are able to manufacture green hydrogen, a zero CO2 emissions fuel, when the planet’s future is at stake,” says Matthieu Guesné. The regional daily also states that a distribution station will open in La Roche-sur-Yon at the beginning of October. At the pump, “the price will be the same as a full tank of petrol.”

The company stresses that this industrial production plant of renewable hydrogen, which is directly connected to a wind farm, is a unique technical feat and even a world premiere.
Matthieu Guesné and his team will inaugurate the production site on September 30.
