Lhyfe joins forces with a fertiliser producer and a wind energy specialist to set up a hydrogen cluster in Sweden

The French group Lhyfe is to cooperate with OX2, one of Europe’s largest developers of onshore wind turbines, and Velarion, an innovative company in the green fertiliser sector, to create a hydrogen-based industrial cluster in the municipality of Ånge, Sweden.

Lhyfe is pursuing its projects in Europe, and more particularly in Sweden. It is working on a project north of Torpshammar that will combine wind power with large-scale production of green hydrogen to generate carbon-neutral products. Lhyfe will collaborate with OX2, which is developing a wind farm with a planned annual production capacity of 1.4 TWh. This green electricity could be used to power the hydrogen production unit that Lhyfe plans to install. Production capacity will reach up to 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per day (electrolysis capacity of around 300 MW).

The outlet will be provided by Velarion, one of the main partners in this initiative. Velarion plans to build one of the world’s first carbon-neutral fertiliser plants. It will use green hydrogen to produce green ammonia, which will considerably reduce CO2 emissions in fertiliser production.
“These collaborations will help build a local ecosystem that contributes to the region’s economy and job creation”, said Sara Wihlborg, Country Manager Sweden at Lhyfe.

Together, Lhyfe, OX2 and Velarion aim to make Ånge the region’s green hub and attract other companies.
