700 km range for Hyvia’s future Master H2-Tech

As part of the IAA show in Hannover, the joint venture between Renault and Plug is unveiling a prototype of the new hydrogen-powered Master. A model that considerably improves its performance. It is expected to arrive in 2025.

More beautiful, more modern and higher performances. Instead of 400 km, Hyvia’s new Master H2-Tech can cover 700 km according to the WLTP cycle. This is a 75% increase in range. To achieve this result, Hyvia has played with a number of parameters. The new van is fitted with a 47 kW new-generation fuel cell developed by Plug (instead of 30kW). It also incorporates fuel tanks (7.5 or 9 kg) supplied by the two leading French equipment manufacturers: OPmobility and Forvia. But the main innovation comes from the integration of the Dual Power propulsion chain. Instead of adapting components to an existing vehicle, as it was the case with the previous generation, the teams were able to benefit from the contribution of a new multi-energy platform on which they were able to work in advance.

While preserving load volume and payload, the hydrogen architecture ensures optimum energy efficiency for the battery (20 kWh, instead of 33) and the fuel cell. The new Master makes the most of hydrogen and electric power.

“It’s a great source of satisfaction for all HYVIA teams to be able to preview the prototype of the hydrogen version of the new Renault Master, which will be on the road by the end of 2025.” says Hyvia’s CEO Nicolas Champetier. He added: “This major innovation is the fruit of over 3 years’ hard collective work, in partnership with Renault and Plug.”

Incidentally, the future Master H2-Tech is far more efficient than its battery-electric equivalent, which claims a range of just 460 km. That is also more than the range of Stellantis vans: 400 km for compacts and 500 km for large vans. “The hydrogen version of the new Master, developed by HYVIA, will meet the intensive uses of professionals committed to the energy transition, thanks to its unprecedented autonomy and uncompromising design.” says Heinz-Jürgen Löw, Renault Brand Light Commercial Vehicle & President of the Supervisory Board, HYVIA.

This prototype will also be on show at the Paris Motor Show next month.
