At the opening of the Meet4Hydrogen event, Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot delivered a reassuring message to industry stakeholders.
As a representative from the South of France, the Minister expressed his enthusiasm for seeing the joint Hyporrts and Hysky event take place in Marseille. He emphasized that decarbonizing maritime and air transport is a top priority for the coming decades, highlighting hydrogen as a powerful tool to drive this transition. While the sector faces challenges, as with any breakthrough technology, the French aerospace industry remains committed to developing hydrogen-powered aircraft and sustainable aviation fuels produced from electrolytic hydrogen.
In the maritime sector, the transition to hydrogen and sustainable fuels is gaining momentum. As global divisions grow, hydrogen production aligns with President Emmanuel Macron’s call on 5 March for France to “take control of its destiny and become more independent.”
France’s Strategic Advantage in the Hydrogen Race
The Minister underscored France’s competitive advantages in the hydrogen sector, including its water resources, a substantial supply of low-carbon electricity thanks to nuclear power, and world-class ports poised to play a key role in hydrogen storage and distribution.
Despite the obstacles, Philippe Tabarot urged industry players to remain resilient. He concluded: “Through the revised national strategy, the government is reaffirming its support for hydrogen and sustainable synthetic fuel production in France, particularly for aviation and maritime transport. By accelerating hydrogen production and adoption, the industry is also strengthening France’s and Europe’s sovereignty.”
