The French start-up NamX, which is preparing a hydrogen-powered SUV for 2027, has announced that it has obtained a patent for its dual-tank system. An important step for the future.

When it unveiled its SUV at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, NamX put on a show with its hydrogen fuel cartridge system. An idea already explored by Aaqius and has also studied by Toyota. On his LinkedIn account, the company’s founder and CEO, Faouzi Annajah, is delighted to have been awarded an international patent (W0 2023/203114 A1).

He has also published a photograph of this patent, published in October 2023. Filed at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in April of the same year, it relates to a removable tank concept in the form of a tube that fits into the orifices provided for this purpose in the rear of the vehicle. Assisted by the Ipaz organisation for this patent, NamX believes that this capsule will help to make hydrogen more widely available.

As of 2022, the company announced its intention to deploy CapXstores*. The capsules will make up for the lack of hydrogen refuelling stations. It should be noted that NamX’s SUV also has a conventional fuel tank.

*CapXstores: these are cartridge dispensers that cost 50 times less than hydrogen refuelling stations and could be a useful alternative.
