Gas operator Natran highlights the importance of France as a key transit country. The country’s transport infrastructure is increasingly receiving renewable gases, in preparation for hydrogen and CO2.
In total, no fewer than five hydrogen and CO2 infrastructure projects (Barmar, HY-Fen, Rhyn, DKHARBO, and GO CO2), led by Natran and its partners, have been selected by the European Union to receive funding of up to €35 million.
Regarding hydrogen, several regional and cross-border projects made significant progress in 2024. For example, MosaHYc has entered the investment phase, while HynFramed and DHUNE have begun their basic engineering phases.
The most prominent projects are BarMar-H2med and HY-FEN, which aim to establish a corridor linking the Iberian Peninsula to Germany, serving the French industrial users along the route. In this regard, the Call for Expressions of Interest launched at the end of 2024 for H2med was a success, identifying 500 projects and attracting interest from 168 companies. In France alone, 54 companies responded with 81 projects spread across the country.
On the CO2 transport front, the DKHARBO project has entered the basic study phase in partnership with Equinor. Meanwhile, the GoCO2 project has formalised a cooperation agreement with partners Elengy, Heidelberg Materials, Lafarge, Lhoist, and Natran.
