Natural Hydrogen: Second Permit Issued in Béarn

According to La République des Pyrénées, a second permit was issued in Béarn (France) on 21 February. It was granted to 45.8 Energy, which also confirmed on its website that it has obtained another permit in the Landes region.

The information was officially published last Saturday in the Journal Officiel. Following the issuance of the TBH2 Aquitaine permit in December 2023, 45.8 Energy, in partnership with Storengy, has now been awarded the second licence for native hydrogen exploration in the Béarn region. According to the regional daily, this permit covers the Béarn des Gaves area, spanning between Navarrenx and Oloron, as well as part of Soule.

Named Grand Rieu, the permit area extends across 266 km² and includes 36 communes in Soule and Béarn des Gaves. La République des Pyrénées also reports that the 45.8 Energy – Storengy consortium has secured another hydrogen exploration licence, known as the Marensin permit. This covers 681 km² in the northeast of the Landes region. Both licences are valid for five years.
