Norway to launch first hydrogen powered ferry

According to Fuel Cell Works, Fiskerstrand Holding AS will develop and design a ferry based on hydrogen and fuel cells through a PILOT E project. This research program is established by the Research Council, Enova and Innovation Norway, in order to develop environmentally friendly energy technologies and to cut emissions. This project is named HYBRIDShips, which stands for “hydrogen and Battery Technology for Innovative Powertrains in ships.”

FiskerStrand is looking to cut emissions by using hydrogen and fuel cells for propulsion, in combination with a battery. This hybrid hydrogen ferry will be in operation before 2020 in Norway.
