La Française de l’Énergie (a French company specializing in renewable energy production, including biogas and green hydrogen) has secured a strategic contract to supply electrolysers worth €20 million (around $20 million USD) for a project at the heart of Norway ’s Hydrogen Valley. The hydrogen produced will be used for maritime transport applications.
The contract relates to the Agder Hydrogen Hub project, initiated by renewable energy producer Greenstat, for which a final investment decision has been made in Kristiansand. The first phase of the project will establish 20 MW of renewable hydrogen production capacity at the Fiska industrial park.
This is where La Française de l’Énergie comes in, through its Norwegian subsidiary. The company has signed an agreement with ITM Power to supply 20 MW of electrolysers. The order includes four Neptune V units, each with a capacity of 5 MW. These latest-generation electrolysers are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2026.
A 40 MW Expansion Planned for 2027
La Française de l’Énergie highlights that the project has financial support from ENOVA, which has provided a grant of NOK 148 million (€12.7 million), covering nearly 40% of the total investment cost. The French company is currently in discussions with its longstanding banking and financial partners to finalise the funding for this phase.
The Agder Hydrogen Hub project will be followed by a 40 MW expansion in 2027, bringing the total installed capacity to 60 MW. With this initiative, La Française de l’Énergie aims to position itself as a key player in the low-carbon energy market in Norway and across Europe.
