Porsche will shift to hydrogen too in the future

According to Autocar, the Volkswagen Group is preparing fuel cell powered vehicles in the next few years. This will concern VW, but also Audi and Porsche brands.

There will be a first step with a full electric vehicle. VW has already launched the e-Golf and Audi has introduced the new R8 e-tron at last Geneva Motor Show. According to a chart, reproduced by Autocar, Porsche is supposed to release an electric car as well. The brand has already plug in hybrid versions in its porfolio (Cayenne, Panamera, 918 Spyder) and has already showed prototypes of the e-Boxster some years ago.

Even if no date has been announced, we can expect by 2020 a Porsche fueled by hydrogen too. VW Group is mastering the technology and has acquired patents from Ballard.

All these alternative energies will be possible thanks to MQB modular architecture. It’s been designed from the outset to accommodate all types of powertrain from petrol and diesel to gas power, plug-in hybrid, battery and hydrogen fuel cell.
