Gen-Hy and Eiffage collaborate to produce electrolysers

Gen-Hy and ‘Eiffage Énergie Systèmes’ have joined forces to create Gen-Hy Cube, a company dedicated to the construction of an electrolysers plant in Montbéliard (Eastern France). These electrolysers will produce green hydrogen.

We have already told you about Gen-Hy, this French start-up that develops AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) electrolysers. The AEM ZERO GAP stacks combine the advantages of alkaline and PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) technologies, achieving an energy efficiency of more than 85%, without using precious metals. It is a company of the group FFED (FlexFuel Energy Development) which has already started up its first pilot production unit for the manufacture of AEM membranes in Orly in December 2021, which is also the first of its kind in France. Gen Hy, which offers a range of AEM alkaline electrolysers from 50 kW to 4 MW, has chosen the Montbéliard region to produce its electrolysers.

The start-up has decided to call on Eiffage Énergie Systèmes to support it in this project. Eiffage will provide its industrialisation capabilities by making available its know-how in product-process integration, lean manufacturing, mechatronics and risk management, and by helping assembling the stacks. The two partners have chosen to join forces within Gen-Hy Cube, a structure dedicated to the manufacture of electrolysers developed and patented by Gen-Hy.

The new plant, which is expected to start it deliveries in 2024, will have an annual production capacity of 100 MW of AEM electrolysers, with a possible extension to 300 MW.
