Hyundai makes the case for flying taxis (including hydrogen-powered ones)

The head of the Hyundai’s air mobility division, who is also the CEO of Supernal, spoke at the Bloomberg forum in Singapore. Jaiwon Shin believes that electric flying taxis have their place and can help to decarbonise transport.

Much more than a car manufacturer, Hyundai’s ambition is to become a mobility operator. And for the Korean company, the solution also lies in the air. This is why it has created the Supernal brand. Its future air taxi will come in battery-electric and hydrogen-powered versions. A video was shown at the forum.

We also learned that a new VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) taxi would be presented at the CES* in Las Vegas in January. The manufacturer, which is working with partners with a view to marketing its vehicles in 2028, is calling for public-private partnerships.

In this area, Hyundai is banking on solid batteries, hydrogen fuel cells and autonomous driving.
