France Well Represented at European Hydrogen Week
As European Hydrogen Week kicked off yesterday and runs until 22 November, France Hydrogène is hosting five French regions at its stand. This event offers a prime opportunity to highlight their achievements on the international stage.
With over 8,000 attendees from across the globe, European Hydrogen Week has become an essential gathering for the industry. French stakeholders, including France Hydrogène, are prominently represented, with five regions aiming to enhance the visibility of France’s hydrogen sector at a European level. The regions of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (southeastern France), Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (eastern France), Centre-Val de Loire (central France), Normandy (northwestern France), and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (southern France) are showcasing their projects at a shared 54 m² pavilion.
The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is positioning itself strategically at the European level, with four projects recognized as Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) by the European Commission: BarMar, HyFen, HyGreen, and GeoH2. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is a pioneer in hydrogen innovation, with initiatives such as the ZEV project and the recent ImagHyne hydrogen valley. It has also forged European partnerships, including the S3 Hydrogen Valleys Partnership, and contributes to the Clean Hydrogen Alliance’s strategic committee.
In Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the region’s leadership is underscored by the European Commission’s support for four gigafactories: Forvia (hydrogen tanks), McPhy and Gen-Hy (electrolysers), and Alstom (hydrogen rail motorisation), all part of the Hy2Tech IPCEI program, alongside Inocel (high-powered fuel cells). Similarly, Normandy plays a foundational role in the European Hydrogen Valleys Partnership, the continent’s first network of local authorities supporting hydrogen development.
The Centre-Val de Loire region, though less advanced, is hosting a gigafactory for electrolysers by Elogen, which also forms part of the IPCEI initiative.
“This event is much more than a meeting; it is a catalyst for collaboration among companies, local authorities, researchers, and institutions,” says Christelle Werquin, Managing Director of France Hydrogène. “It’s an opportunity to elevate our collective profile, share experiences, and strengthen best practices to accelerate hydrogen innovation and deployment.”
