H3 Dynamics launches a 400 kW fuel cell approved for aerospace applications
The French company H3 Dynamics has announced a major breakthrough with its latest fuel cell, which is twice as powerful as competing models and 50% lighter. It complements a complete range of products designed to meet the stringent requirements of the aerospace industry.
H3 Dynamics, already offering solutions in the 50, 100, and 200 kW ranges, now introduces the Aerocell 400 kW. This fuel cell can serve both as an auxiliary power unit and as a propulsion system. For instance, combining three of these fuel cells can deliver up to 1.2 MW of power, sufficient for medium-sized aircraft.
Since 2015, H3 Dynamics has been developing products tailored for the aviation sector, including batteries capable of performing at high altitudes and across various speed profiles. The company prioritizes efficiency, focusing on energy density and reduced weight, leveraging innovative materials. Several recent partnerships have been established, including collaborations with Airbus, Pipistrel (as part of the Hypotrade project), Qdot Technology, Lyte Aviation, and Sea Cheetah. From drones to aircraft seating between 50 and 100 passengers, as well as flying taxis, H3 Dynamics addresses a wide spectrum of aviation needs.
The company’s objective is to deliver a certified propulsion system in France by the end of 2025, which it claims will be the world’s most powerful electric-hydrogen powertrain. ‘We have moved beyond the technology validation phase and are gearing up for the development of a European value chain for hydrogen-powered aviation,’ stated Taras Wankewycz, CEO of H3 Dynamics.
