ZeroAvia joins a coalition of three airports in Europe
Last July, at the Farnborough Air Show, ZeroAvia announced a partnership with the airports of Hamburg, Rotterdam and The Hague. The start-up is positioning itself on a future route for hydrogen-powered aircraft.
Hamburg, Rotterdam and The Hague had already begun discussions to establish a hydrogen air route. These three airports signed a memorandum of understanding at the Paris Air Show. So this is the next logical step. ZeroAvia’s role will be to supply the aircraft and the refuelling infrastructure.
Representatives of the airports involved travelled to the UK to visit the start-up’s facilities. They were able to see a Cessna adapted to run on hydrogen. But they were much more interested in the mobile refuelling system. This makes it possible to refuel tanks directly where the aircraft is parked. Hamburg, Rotterdam and The Hague airports are also discussing safety and infrastructure with the civil authorities in their countries.
For Hamburg airport, this partnership is complementary to a more global project involving the Baltic Sea and hydrogen-powered aircraft. The latter is called BSR HyAirport.
