At the World Economic Forum, the Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that hydrogen would “arrive sooner than later.”

In a statement broadcast on YouTube, which he made on leaving a meeting on green hydrogen, Hardeep Singh Pur said: “You saw in the session how much interest there is in Green Hydrogen. Green Hydrogen is the fuel of the future. […] India has some inherent advantages because we have a large consuming population, there will be a large demand for energy and as we transition to greener energy, green hydrogen will arrive on our scene sooner than later.”

India was all the more in the news because the Davos Forum published a study on hydrogen in India. The study, which can be viewed on the Davos Forum website, was carried out by Bain & Company. It contains recommendations to facilitate the adoption of the technology in India.

India has great ambitions regarding hydrogen. As a matter of fact, the country wants to become the leader in green hydrogen production. A year ago, India launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission worth more than $2.6 billion. As a side note, we wrote an article on this subject in January 2023.
