Lhyfe to produce green and renewable hydrogen in the UK and Ireland

French green hydrogen producer, Lhyfe, announced a partnership with European renewable energy developer, Source Galileo. Together they are to develop production units.

As a part of this partnership, Lhyfe and Source Galileo will deploy production sites of green and renewable hydrogen in the UK, where a number of projects is already underway. The two companies are also considering developing projects in Ireland. There they will identify the consumers and assess several factors such as the availability of a network, electricity supply, land availability, as well as spatial planning requirements.

These projects will contribute to the Net Zero goals of the two countries. The British government doubled its goal of low-carbon hydrogen production from 5 GW to 10 GW by 2030. At least half of which would be green hydrogen. As far as Ireland is concerned, its National Hydrogen Strategy was published in July 2023 with a plan aiming to develop a national hydrogen production of 2 GW from offshore wind farms by the year 2030.

The companies will initially use electricity generated from land-base renewable sources. In the long run, they could tap into the UK and Ireland’s huge offshore wind potential. This could enable them to bypass the constraints of the electricity network.

*This player has a pipeline of around 10 GW of offshore wind projects and hydrogen projects under development in the UK, Ireland and Norway.
