ADEME’s call for project is substantial for hydrogen ecosystems

While new winners have been announced at Hyvolution (see previous article here LINK) and a new call for projects is taking shape, it is time to take stock of ADEME’s actions.

As the agency recalled in its press release, the first projects linked to hydrogen in the territories began in 2018 with the National Hydrogen Deployment Plan (the Hulot Plan). The objective: to bring together private and public players, based on the uses identified in the territories. In September 2020, the government then launched a National Hydrogen Strategy which confirmed the economic and strategic stakes of the sector and provides a vision for the 2020-2030 decade.

Two calls for projects, operated by ADEME, have made it possible to support these developments. A total of 46 file cases were selected, representing 35 ecosystems throughout France.

As of today, the safe uses associated with these ecosystems represent 8,400 tonnes of hydrogen per year, the majority of which (91%) is destined for passenger transport: buses and coaches, as well as for goods transport: commercial vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and refuse lorries. 130,000 tonnes of CO2 per year are avoided thanks to these various projects.

“Since ‘France Relance’ this call for projects has shown hydrogen’s ability to meet the very concrete needs of territories to reduce the use of fossil fuels, whether in urban mobility, in public services, or in the decarbonisation of our industrial base. The aim is to support this dynamic to create the conditions for the success of a French hydrogen industry” said Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister for Energy Transition.
