GRTgaz launches feasibility studies for the HY-FEN project. The aim of this future transmission infrastructure is to link several industrial consumption basins and hydrogen storage sites in France.
The gas company is active on several fronts. After projects mosaHYc and BarMar, it is now moving into the second phase of the HY-FEN project. This involves developing a future 850-kilometre hydrogen transport network with a capacity of 2 Mt/year. By 2030, the route will link several major French industrial basins, including Fos-Marseille in the South of France, the French Chemical Valley in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and the Grand-Est region.
This hydrogen highway will connect these basins to massive underground storage projects to ensure a secure supply.
Ultimately, the HY-FEN project is intended to interconnect in the south of France with the Occitania region and with the BarMar project at Fos-sur-Mer as part of the European H2Med corridor. In eastern France, it would also be connected to the future German Kernnetz hydrogen network via the MEGAL network, jointly owned by GRTgaz Deutschland, the German subsidiary of GRTgaz.
