Lhyfe to decarbonise one of Schaeffler’s plant

Lhyfe hydrogen

Lhyfe, the French green hydrogen producer, will collaborate with the German industrial group and automotive supplier in Bavaria. The agreement provides for the construction and operation by Lhyfe of a green hydrogen production unit by electrolysis with a capacity of up to 15 MW.

The agreement will allow for the decarbonisation of the production at the Schaeffler plant in Herzogenaurach, Franconia. “We are proud to support a company of the size of Schaeffler AG in its transformation towards climate-neutral production by 2030,” says Luc Graré, Head of Central and Eastern Europe at Lhyfe. With a capacity of up to 15 MW, the plant will produce green hydrogen on an industrial scale using PEM stacks supplied by Schaeffler.

The aim of the plant is to produce around 3.7 tonnes of green hydrogen per day from 2025. In addition to Schaeffler, customers will include local authorities and hydrogen filling stations. The waste heat generated by the electrolysis of water will be fed into the industrial processes of the Schaeffler plant.

The German equipment manufacturer, which has set up a joint venture with Symbio, is pleased to have another French partner of reference to develop hydrogen.
