Hydrogen aircraft are on the agenda of the AZEA at the Paris Air Show

As you may know, the Paris Air Show started last Monday morning ( June 19). As part of the event, Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton is attending the second General Assembly of the Alliance for Zero Emission Aviation (AZEA), which was being held at the Show.

The AZEA made progress on hydrogen and electric aircraft

The General Assembly presented the progress made by the AZEA in preparing for hydrogen and electric aircraft. This meeting was attended by 180 participants representing the Alliance’s 143 member organisations from across Europe and beyond.

The report published on Monday noted that hydrogen and electric aircraft will enter commercial use during this decade. It also says that the coming years must be put into good use so as to establish an appropriate regulatory framework. The report also describes the analysis carried out by the AZEA working groups over the past six months and the Alliance’s next steps.

250 experts to deliver recommendations

The Commission supports the objective of preparing hydrogen and electric aircraft for service. Since AZEA was launched, more than 250 industry experts have worked in six working groups on recommendations to address the main challenges associated with the introduction of hydrogen and electric aircraft. The issues include certification against stringent aviation safety requirements, preparing airfields for hydrogen and electric aircraft, decarbonised energy volumes and associated infrastructure.

The Alliance remains open to any interested party wishing to become a member.
